Masseter Botox: V-Line Jaw and Clench Control

Author: Op. Dr. Oğuzhan Akgül
What it does
Masseter (chewing muscle) is reduced — face becomes more oval (V-line) and night-clenching pressure drops.
Three indications
- Aesthetic V-line
- Functional bruxism / clench control
- Combined (most common)
Dose reference
- Female slim build: 40–60 U total
- Female standard: 50–70 U
- Male standard: 70–100 U
- Male large + heavy bruxism: 100–140 U
Determined at consultation by palpation + functional need.
Male vs female
Higher dose in male; goal often is "more defined" rather than "thinner" jaw. Often combined with jawline filler.
Risks
Smile asymmetry (transient, 4–8 wks), chewing weakness only at high dose, asymmetry, reactive feel post-effect.
Common questions
- "Will my face sag?" No.
- "Can I still chew?" Yes — normal eating preserved.
- "How many sessions?" Often one; second at 3 months if hypertrophic.
